About Ecclesiastical

Ecclesiastical is proud to be a trusted and ethical specialist insurance company, protecting those who enrich the lives of others.  Operating in Canada since 1972, Ecclesiastical is owned by Allchurches Trust Limited (ATL), one of the UK’s largest independent charities. As a result, all our net profits are returned to the Trust for distribution to worthy causes. In keeping with ATL’s foundational belief in contributing to the greater good, we continuously look for ways to give back to our communities. Most recently, we launched a special COVID-19 initiative in Canada and awarded grants to 38 charities across the country.

About the Community Impact Grant

Under the auspices of ATL, Ecclesiastical established the Community Impact Grant (CIG) program in 2017. The CIG has a unique mandate, namely to award grants to Canadian charities whereby the funds are earmarked for specific projects or programs. These projects or programs have the potential to make a positive and sustained impact in their communities by benefiting youth, helping at-risk, vulnerable or under-served people or by supporting the preservation of Canada’s history and diversity.

Who Qualifies?

CIG is a national program open to Canadian charities whose mission aligns with Ecclesiastical’s values and deep-rooted commitment to “Greater Giving” — helping people in need and making a measurable impact on our communities.

To Be Eligible

  • The applying organization must be a Canadian registered charity as defined by the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA)
  • Grant requests must be for the sole purpose of funding a specific Canadian project or program that is sustainable beyond the period covered by the Grant
  • The organization must be able to provide a charitable tax receipt for the full amount of the grant

Please see FAQs for additional information and exclusions to eligibility.

We Welcome Your Grant Application

If your charity has a program that meets our CIG criteria, we look forward to receiving your application and to learning about how your initiative will make a lasting impact upon your community and contribute to the greater good. The deadline for CIG applications is August 30, 2020.

How Grants are Awarded

Members of Ecclesiastical’s national Volunteer Committee, comprised of staff from across the country, will review all submissions, and the Grant Giving Committee will review all short-listed submissions and make the final decisions. The selection of successful programs is based on the following criteria:

  • Scale and impact of the program
  • The program’s potential for long-term sustainability and success
  • The program’s innovation, creativity and inclusion
  • Organization’s ability to measure results and provide outcomes
  • Program’s cost-effectiveness and long-term financial soundness

Successful applicants will receive a confirmation letter including the amount of the grant. Funds will be available in December 2020. All funding decisions are final.
